It was a sad day when I first heard the new that one of my favorite pastor from church was leaving to pursue other ministry opportunities. What can I say about Pastor Steve Lo?? He's an incredibly godly man, a man with a humongous heart, a man with passion, and only such a man could be called by the people in his ministry as "Asian Jesus". haha But seriously one of the few reasons I decided to attend Great Exchange was because of Steve. His words inspired. His sermons were ones that fit me the best, lots of greek/hebrew yet incredibly applicable to my own life. But God has called him to other ministry opportunities. He's joined up with other individuals to do "Reach Potential" a non-profit organization that serves at risk teens so that they would be empowered to reach their God-given potential.

This past Sunday morning was his last sermon at GrX. It was powerful, heart wrenching, and convicted me to love those who are unlovely, to serve those who are the world has deemed unlovable. Steve, I will definitely miss your high-larious anecdotes, your powerful stories, your messages that were always faithful to Scripture. I know that you'll have an enormous impact wherever God has called you. God bless man!

Here's Steve giving words of encouragement and thanks to folks in his college ministry.

Tue, 28 Apr 2009 05:59:00 -0700 Reinventing myself... http://hguy4x.posterous.com/reinventing-myself http://hguy4x.posterous.com/reinventing-myself

This entry was originally published at Clarence Harvey Photography.

I decided that I wanted to see if I could challenge myself, reinvent myself, rethink photography and what it means to me and the means of how I turn moments into memories. Zack Arias actually was the catalyst to it all, with his stunning short video to encourage and inspire photographers. To continue to evolve myself and my photography was what I took from the video. So with that decided, I wanted the main focus to be on off camera lighting. I mean... finding natural light is good and all... But I bought two flashes for a reason right? They were lonely and a small film of dust covered them. So with my flashes, light modifiers, pocket wizards and a lovely friend to help me out I was off to the races.

Boy was the start of that day ridiculous (to say the least)! I started off trying to do off camera lighting work with iTTL via McNally. When that didn't work out all that well, I tried to do manual settings on the flash while I was in aperture priority. Total FAIL. Then I got everything into manual and then I did a lot of ridiculousness. Flash was overexposes my subject? Am I changing shutter speed or aperture? Wait... why am I on a shutter speed of 1/5000th of a sec? What is going ON?! FINALLY though I got the hang of everything! It's as if everything clicked into place. Aperture controls flash. Shutter controls ambient. Don't exceed your sync speed (wow I actually know what it is now) etc. etc. etc. Not to say that I'm a lighting genius now. But dang... fiddle around for a couple hours and things really do come into play.

Before I get into all the photos, I had another shoot the next day. We were really crunched on time and decided to go do some "on location" shooting. No time to fiddle with lights, modifiers, etc. etc. So I decided to go back to my old ways, my comfort zone. I guess I want you readers to look at the two different styles and give me some constructive criticism. Like the new? Love the old? Hate them all? Comment away!

I'll start off with the "Hair Flinging" series. hahaha

Wed, 08 Apr 2009 01:54:53 -0700 SF Sightseeing http://hguy4x.posterous.com/sf-sightseeing http://hguy4x.posterous.com/sf-sightseeing

This entry was originally published at Clarence Harvey Photography.

How many people actually go do touristy stuff near where they live? I certainly don't. There's so much cool stuff 30 - hour minutes drive from here. You've got SF, wine country, redwood forests, and beaches galore. I LOOVE California. I don't normally go sightseeing in my own backyard (and trust me I should do it more often), but one of my friends was back in town and she brought her roommate from Alaska to visit. Exciting exciting. Her first time in Nor-Cal, so we all decided that we should go sightseeing. First up was Golden Gate Park. We went to see the Japanese tea garden (which wasn't packed because it was a weekday) and the De Young (oh academy of sciences, you're too expensive... lower your prices a little? haha). Then a little trip to the ferry building, embarcadero center and the stuff around. What a fun day it was! Full of laughs, art, culture and of course... fun. hahaha. Well on to the pictorals! The little chinese pagoda by Lake Stow dsc_2372 hahah I couldn't resist! I was walking through the Japanese tea garden, saw this frame, saw the color of her cardigan... told her to go sit on the bench. ahaha. dsc_2386 Cherry blossoms blossoming! heart! dsc_2388 dsc_2393 dsc_2396 dsc_2407 These were two really awesome walls on the DeYoung. dsc_2409 dsc_2410 At the DeYoung, the main attraction was the florist interpretations of art pieces. It was pretty freaking awesome. I've never been to the deYoung before so I don't know if this multicolored flower thing hanging above the lobby is a new thing or not. dsc_2414 dsc_2425 dsc_2426 Florist interpretation in front of the art piece. freaking awesome!!! dsc_2436 dsc_2439dsc_2454 dsc_2444 dsc_2468 dsc_2481 Now these are some random floral art. dsc_2440 dsc_2446 dsc_2447 This reminds me of a Bug's Life. It was kinda like the bird that the ants made. dsc_2460 dsc_2477 They had some Chihuly pieces still in the museum. dsc_2451 dsc_2429 There was also a Yves Saint Laurent exhibit. I couldn't take any pictures but it had some of this clothing pieces throughout his career. I liked this quote they painted on the wall and I got in trouble taking a picture of the quote. haha Whooooopps. dsc_2492 And then some scary stuff too... dsc_2484 Now two pictures to finalize the post. Embarcadero Center and the bow and arrow. dsc_2506 dsc_2502

Tue, 24 Mar 2009 02:37:44 -0700 Jewelry by Di http://hguy4x.posterous.com/jewelry-by-di http://hguy4x.posterous.com/jewelry-by-di

This entry was originally published at Clarence Harvey Photography.

So I've always known in the back of my head that Diana made jewelry. But somehow it was always stuck in the back of my head. haha. How about we start from the beginning? We met at my first ever Live Feed "get-away" up in Napa. She just had surgery on her foot so she really couldn't walk around too much and she couldn't go swim/hottub either. But she however did bring her box of jewelry making magic. Commenting on how awesome her jewelry looked one of the afternoons, I was then greeted by her very witty and very sarcastic sense of humor. "Oh SNAPs... Nuh uh girl... you didn't just start with a crack at me." And so that's how we met. Fast forward months later, Di's sense of humor is still as dry and sarcastic as ever (similar to mine, maybe that's why we get along soooo well...(by cracking jokes at each other)), her jewelry is still as beautiful and as fashionable as ever, but now she wanted memories of the stuff that she made! That's where I come in... and that's where this post comes in.... If you guys see anything you like here, lemme know! Maybe we can work something out! =) On to the PICTURES! These two were made for her coworker's wedding. awesome no?!

Tue, 10 Feb 2009 03:08:00 -0800 Miao Family Session http://hguy4x.posterous.com/miao-family-session http://hguy4x.posterous.com/miao-family-session

This entry was originally published at Clarence Harvey Photography.

Man... its been a while since the last update. But I have a great new post to share with you guys. I had the pleasure of taking pictures of these two cute little twins earlier this year. Their aunt asked if I could do it and I was totally down. Dude these two are so freaking cute. haha I heart babies. They're not even 6 months old and they already have cute little expressions. The fact that they're so young made it a little difficult because you really can't tell them to do anything. Puahaha. Just eye looking through the viewfinder and finger ready to hit the shutter and off to the races. =) But man these two are ridiculously cute. They're entire family is pretty awesome! haha Just watching and hearing them try to get their attention (the babies) was a... mmm... excellent experience. hahaha! Well, here they are! dsc_1764 dsc_1739 dsc_1759 dsc_1753 Aren't these two the cutest evar? dsc_1749-2 In comes mommy and daddy! dsc_1688-2 dsc_1799 dsc_1919-2 Cute huhs =P ahaha went from baby pictures to family portrait. ahaha. dsc_1802 a little p.i.m.p. in training. ahaha. dsc_2043 last but not least. this is super cute. both of them holding hands. =) dsc_1949 Read or Leave Comments!
